Makeup trial FAIL

I've always been a firm believer that practice makes perfect and so of course I scheduled a hair and makeup trial before the big day...or at least I thought I did. Come to find out the receptionist failed to tell the stylist who is taking care of my wedding day beauty that I was wanting a practice run of my makeup done on the same day I drove all the way to NC to get my hair done. Unfortunately for me my chick was booked solid after my appointment until close and so now I will be finding out what my day-of makeup looks like on well, the day-of. Total makeup trial FAIL. The perfectionist in me is freaking out and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I won't end up looking horrible on my wedding day *sigh* Oh, the stress!

Gettin' gorgeous

I've made up my mind that I'm going to have to have someone do my makeup for me on my wedding day. I can already imagine how nervous and tightly-wound I'm going to be, and I don't trust myself to make me pretty under those conditions! I have been looking for some ideas as to how I want "my look" to be, but I've ultimately come to the decision that I'm going to give whatever makeup artist I choose free reign over making me over because I want something that looks good on me and not on some celebrity or other person with a completely different face. I figure they know what they're doing since that's their job and can give me a look that's uniquely mine and compliments me. I don't want anything too heavy like a smoky eye look or red lipstick because I just can't pull that off, but I don't want to look completely "natural" either. What's the point of getting your makeup done if it's not going to look like you've got anything on, right? I just want something soft and girly like peachy cheeks and pink lips. I'm considering the airbrush makeup thing, only because my skin tone never truly looks "even" since I have freckles, and I've heard this gives the look of a more smooth complexion. I've also started on a beauty regimen to get me looking good for the big day and the honeymoon where I'll be spending most of my days scantily clad in a bikini with the weather being as hot as it will be. I've started religiously exfoliating with sugar scrub to prepare my skin for the self-tanner stuff I'm going to try out. I'm so fair-skinned that I usually just burn when I go to the tanning bed and with the risk of skin cancer in my family I probably don't need to be going anyway. So I'm going to try the spray tan in a can and keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't turn me Oompa-Loompa orange! I've also been doing my yoga and breaking out the Carmen Electra strip aerobics DVDs just to tone up. I'm not allowed to lose or gain any weight in these next four months because my dress fits me perfect right now!

Hair inspiration

I've been thinking a lot recently about how to wear my hair on the big day. FI likes it down and I was trying to take that into consideration, except for the fact that my hair is naturally hella straight and it's a pain in the butt to get it to do anything. I've worn it down and curly for a couple of special occasions and it always falls flat after a couple of hours no matter how much Aquanet the stylist uses. I don't want my hair to look limp and bedhead-like when I go walking down the aisle, and I'm afraid that if I get it done early enough for pictures and such by the time we go to the reception it's going to look like crap. So I think I'm going to just wear it up for the wedding so I don't have to worry about it (since I'll have enough things to worry about the day of anyway) and wear it down for our TTD photo shoot. That way I'll have a couple different looks in our album (and FI gets to see me in THE dress with my hair down like he likes) but I'll rock a no-fuss style on my wedding day. I've saved a couple pics to my computer that I'm going to show my stylist...who by the way I haven't picked yet since I'm not a regular anywhere. I want something romantic and relaxed, not princess-like or perfectly coifed. I was thinking loose, tousled waves/curls with a little pouf on the top for volume. I don't want it to look like those Bump-its infomercials though lol I'm open to anything that looks good on me personally, so I'm just taking these pics in as inspiration and not a guideline, but it is important that I have my veil underneath my updo rather than over it. I don't see the point in paying to get your hair done if you're just going to cover it up! Here's some updo pics I've found that I'm loving right now.
